Choose vacuum cord length by measuring outlets, rooms, storage and daily cleaning routes instead of chasing the longest cable.
A cord is part of a vacuum cleaner’s working range, not just a number on the box. If you are asking how long should a vacuum cleaner cord be, measure the route between the outlets you actually use, then include the tube and head reach. The longest cable is not automatically the easiest to store or the safest around furniture.
The useful answer is usually a sequence of small checks rather than one dramatic specification. Walk through the routine below, then test the exact configuration if you are buying for a retail programme. Keep a short written record of the floor, head, filter, power version and anything that changed during the route; it will make the final decision easier to explain.
Map the outlets before choosing a number
Walk the normal cleaning route and mark the outlets that are safe, accessible and not hidden behind heavy furniture. Measure from each outlet to the far corner of the room, around doorways rather than through them. A vacuum cleaner with long cord only saves time when the cable follows that route without crossing a stair, a cooker or a busy entrance. Add the reach of the tube and floor head, but do not count a stretched cable as usable distance.
Separate cable length from usable reach
A label may state 5 m, 8 m or 10 m, but part of that length runs from the outlet to the user and part must remain loose enough for turning. Furniture legs, doors and the position where the cord leaves the motor body can reduce practical reach. Test whether the strain relief bends sharply when the head turns. A useful cord length reaches the intended zone while leaving a relaxed curve near the machine.

Manage the cord during the clean
Keep the cable behind the working path and move the plug only after switching the machine off. Do not pull the vacuum by the cable or use the cord to lift the product. In a multi-room route, finish one side of a room before crossing the cable to the other side. This sounds basic, but it reveals whether a long cable improves the routine or simply creates a larger loop to step over.
Storage can set the upper limit
A 10 m cable may reduce outlet changes but needs more space and a sensible coiling method. Check whether the owner can wind it loosely without crushing the strain relief or blocking the dust-cup release. Do not wrap a warm cable tightly around the motor body. If the machine lives in a narrow cupboard, a shorter approved cable may make the product easier to take out and return.

Electrical configuration still comes first
Cord length cannot be approved separately from the destination plug, voltage and frequency. The plug body, cable specification and strain relief must belong to the same electrical version. An importer should give each regional version a separate configuration code and confirm the sample against the quotation, manual and carton. An extension lead should not be used to hide a cable decision that the product programme has not resolved.
Repeat the route with the final sample
Place the approved sample at the real starting outlet and clean the planned route with the final floor head attached. Count outlet changes, note where the cable catches and check the plug and strain relief after the run. Repeat the route with the dust cup partly filled, because handling can feel different after a longer session. This produces a usable reach decision instead of choosing the longest option by habit.
Where the TEH platform fits
The documented TEH Corded Stick Vacuum Cleaner platform uses a 270 W high-voltage DC brushless motor, suction above 25 kPa and noise below 75 dB under the stated test conditions. It has an independently powered motorized roller floor head, a 1.2 L transparent PC cyclonic dust cup and H12 HEPA as standard. H13 HEPA is available as a higher-cost customization. The detachable power cord can be specified from 5 m to 10 m with destination-specific plug, voltage and frequency.
For repeated home cleaning, the platform can be specified around the floor, cord route and destination market. The product section should still be read with the stated test conditions: a floor head, carpet, filter and user routine can change the experience. Treat the generated colour as an editorial concept until the factory confirms the production finish.
For importers and OEM buyers
A vacuum cleaner manufacturer or vacuum cleaner supplier should keep the approved sample, quotation, specification, instruction manual, packaging and online copy aligned. For an OEM vacuum cleaner or private label vacuum cleaner, record the final floor head, dust cup, filter grade, cord length, plug, voltage, frequency and replacement parts before launch. If a claim depends on a specific floor or test method, keep that condition in the internal file instead of turning it into an absolute promise.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a longer vacuum cord always mean better reach? No. Furniture, doorways, safe cable routing and storage reduce usable reach. Measure the actual route.
Is a 5 m cord enough for a home? It can be enough for a compact room or apartment with accessible outlets. Test the route before deciding.
What must an OEM buyer confirm with cord length? Confirm the plug, voltage, frequency, cable specification, strain relief, storage method and regional configuration code.
